Primary School Curriculum

We, at the Primary Wing of The Khaitan School, believe that the mind, like a parachute, works best when opened. Keeping this initiative in mind, the scholastic and co-scholastic aspects of the curriculum and the evaluation procedure are developed for building the students’ knowledge, potential & talent, to the optimum level. Smart boards in all sections of the primary wing facilitate world-class audio-visual learning which engages students and enables better comprehension. Scientific temperament is inculcated through lab experiments, exhibitions, model making, collage making, nature walk, many multi-skilled activities and interdisciplinary projects.


  1. Promotion is granted on the basis of the whole year’s assessment of the student’s performance in scholastic and co-scholastic areas, hence regularity in attendance and work is imperative.
  2. Weightage as per the following criteria (mentioned in three parts) will be given for deciding the assessment of the students at the end of the academic session.


It consists of the evaluation of Scholastic attainments which will be reflected in the Performance Sheet in the form of Marks and Grades ( 8 point grading)

  1. There are two semesters in the academic year. The first Semester is from April to September and the second Semester is from October to March. Each semester has 50% weightage.
  2. Each semester has two periodic assessments which include (Periodic Tests, Assignments, Subject Enrichment Activities) and Half yearly / Annual Assessment.
  3. Assessment scores are indicated in Grades.
  4. The Grading Scale for the Scholastic Domain based on an 8 point Grading Scale is given at the reverse side of the Report Card.
  5. PERIODIC TEST( weightage 10 %) – Each Semester has two cycles of Periodic Tests of a maximum of 20 marks for all the subjects on a weekly basis as per the schedule given in the Almanac.
  6. ASSIGNMENTS (weightage 5 %) –Each Semester has two cycles of Assignments of a maximum of 15 marks for all the subjects as per the schedule given the in the almanac. (10marks assignment + 5 marks for lab activity/research activity/individual activity)
  7. ORAL ASSESSMENT (5 marks)- Oral assessment as a part of Internal assessment is aimed at enhancing the confidence and speaking skills of the students. The oral assessment takes place twice in each Semester in April / May (5 marks) July & Aug (5 marks) and in Oct/ Nov.(5 marks) & Jan/Feb. (5 marks). Marks for the Oral assessment are included in the subject enrichment activities.
  8. Subject Enrichment Activities (weightage 5 %)- These are subject-specific and are aimed at enrichment of the understanding, thinking and creative skills. These are recorded twice in each Semester in April / May (5 marks) & Aug(5 marks) Oct (5 marks) &Jan./Feb.(5 marks) by subject teachers for a maximum of 10 marks.

These activities are as follows:

For Languages: Activities conducted for subject enrichment aim at equipping the learner to develop effective Speaking and Listening Skills(ASL)

For Mathematics: The listed Lab Activities and Projects are conducted to enhance thinking and analytical skills and give impetus to experiential learning.

For EVS/Science: The listed Practical works/Activities are conducted to enhance thinking, analytical and reasoning skills and give impetus to experiential learning.

For Social Science: Map and Project works are undertaken to give impetus to experiential learning.

Half Yearly and Annual Assessments are conducted in September and in March (weightage 30%) respectively for each subject

Our school promotes Co-curricular activities for the holistic development of the student. These are graded on a 3-point Grading Scale(A to C) twice in a session and are as follows:

Part 3 consists of Co-Scholastic Activities wherein choice in participation and assessment thereof is available. It has two sub parts to be assessed on a three point Grading Scale.

Part-3(A) (Any One) SUPW(III – V)

  3. Information and Communication Technology(ICT)
  4. Organizational and Leadership Skills

A student will be expected to choose one activity from these four groups and will be assessed twice in a session on their level of participation and achievement.

  2. Sports (Any two) (III – V)

Discipline impacts career shaping and helps build character, sincerity, good behaviour and values develop, strengthen and foster a sense of cooperation, sharing and caring.

  1. Periodic Tests will be conducted in all subjects for classes I – V according to the schedule given in the Almanac. Re assessment for periodic test will be allowed only in the following cases:(III-V)
    a) Extended medical problem supported by a medical certificate to be submitted within a week of the student joining the school, to the class teacher.
    b) If the child is going out of school to participate in an Inter School competition.
  2. Only two re-assessments for periodic tests are allowed per semester .
  3. Re-assessment for periodic test for classes I,II.
